Confession: Style is something that I once struggled with. I had a horrible habit of using clothes to blend in as an attempt of looking and feeling “normal”. Due to my height and awkwardness, I didn’t want to draw any additional attention to myself. So I hid behind my own “Invisible Wardrobe” of jeans and tee shirts.
As I grew older, experienced some life and did a lot of soul searching, I eventually overcame my fear of being seen. And getting to this point had a lot to do with changing my wardrobe. I finally stopped hiding behind the basics and started wearing clothes that flattered my body and reflected my personality.
The better I dressed, the more my confidence grew.
And that’s where the magic happened. I tried things I would have never tried before: fitted silhouettes, bright colors, even fancy high heels! While before, I would look at those items and think “I could never/would never/should never wear that” they were now more “me” than I ever would have dreamed.
As my outside appearance improved, so did my inner confidence. And then so did my life.
After studying Economics at Georgetown University, I spent 10 years working at the corporate offices of some of the world’s biggest retail brands: The Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy, and Carters, Inc. While there, I grew several businesses with my knowledge of merchandising, apparel production, pricing strategy and international development. (So I know a whole lot about what makes a garment a good investment and when it will probably go on sale! )
But I wanted more…
I started Wider Style to help other women make the same transformation I did and to help them finally SEE themselves. All of themselves and their inherent radiance and beauty. I want other women to know that being stylish is OK and that it is safe. I use my diverse background to work with professional women throughout the world and help them understand that being seen as a well put together and attractive woman doesn’t detract from their intelligence or professional accomplishments, but in fact enhances them.
So I’m not here to push you into the hottest styles or trends just because they’re hot. I’m here to help you finally see yourself through clothes. Trust that the wardrobe I build for you will be clothing with high value, great quality and high usage at obtainable price points. The items we find may be designer or they may be from a discount store, or even a consignment store, but all of them will be right for YOU: your personality, your body, your lifestyle, your professional goals and your budget.
I will be there every step of the way not only by transforming your wardrobe but also helping you embrace your style vision in mind, body and spirit.
